Better Leasehold is a guidance website for leaseholders in England and Wales. It aims to help you understand and act on leasehold matters, with a particular focus on the Right to Manage, lease extensions and running your own block.
Who it is for
The site is written mainly for leaseholders in small blocks of flats, roughly 10 flats or fewer. Managing a small block takes proportionally more time than managing a large one, but management fees rarely reflect that, so leaseholders in smaller blocks often get less attention and worse value than those in a block of 40 flats or more.
Small blocks have a real advantage too: it is realistic for the leaseholders to run the block themselves, and neighbouring blocks can share duties to gain some of the economies of scale that larger blocks enjoy. The aim of this site is to give you as many tools as possible to do exactly that.
How it works
Better Leasehold is designed as a hub where leaseholders can find clear guidance, connect with others in a similar position, and get recommendations and referrals that suit their block.
For those who would rather not handle a Right to Manage claim themselves, Better Leasehold can manage the process for you. It can also refer you to block management companies, including its own management service, where that is the best fit. Referrals are matched to your area: a managing agent in Newcastle is unlikely to be right for a block in Devon.
The guides are general information, not legal advice, and have not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. See the terms of use for more.
